Highbury Media is an exciting place to build and grow your career. We have a talented, energetic and dynamic team that works hard, has fun and collaborates to create excellent content every day.

A team of approximately 300 staff work at Highbury Media today, including editors, journalists and content producers, videographers, photographers, designers, business leaders, strategists and consultants.  Together, they create an energetic, vibrant atmosphere where amazing work is created every day.

Over the company’s two decade long history, we’ve seen many employees leave to explore the industry, and decide to return to work at HM. There is perhaps no greater compliment than this pattern – to see staff grow in their careers, and return to Highbury because they love the work, and the people.

HM has been a growing company since the onset, with just a handful of employees when it first began. Opportunity exists for career growth and development in nearly every aspect of the business. Click here to check out the latest opportunities.

The diversity of our staff and their talents is what makes Highbury successful.

“I don’t consider what I do a job. Success to me is celebrating other people’s success. I draw inspiration from the talent that is everywhere in our organization.” Kevin Ferguson, CEO

“There has never been a dull moment in my time at Highbury. I am constantly challenged with the rapid pace at which this industry develops as well as the pace at which this particular business grows. Each growth phase requires a very strategic risk analysis and legal approach.” Tracey Stewart, Legal Director

“Highbury was my first client when I was completing my Chartered Accountant (CASA)  qualification. I’ve been obsessed with magazines since I was a teenager and all I wanted to do was work in the industry.”  Lindsey Makrygiannis, Financial Director

CSR Initiatives

Highbury Media contributes to the lives of the underprivileged.  Our Corporate Social Responsibility strategy is aimed at helping those who have less in South Africa. We encourage community growth and development, by working with local associations and communities to help them better themselves.

A Corporate Responsibility Committee (CRC), made up of representatives from across the company, works on various social responsibility programmes, including an ongoing commitment to Baphumelele, in Khayelitsha, which offers several community programs and cares for more than 100 orphans, at its Children’s Home, as well as operating Baphumelele Fountain of Hope (Philippi), a residential and support home for youth 18-21. Elements of our commitment have included upgrading the accommodation and bathrooms, and converting an old shed into a professional work space with computer equipment at Fountain of Hope. Our team members travel to Baphumelele regularly to visit the children, and provide gifts of toys, school shoes, as well as other useful items.

  • Our recent contribution to Tramway (Football club) provided a once-in-a- lifetime experience for the kids under 12 to participate in the World Youth Soccer Cup (known as the Gothia Cup) tournament in Sweden. The club is completely run by community volunteers. They provide a football home, with coaching and match participation, to children and teenagers from the age of 4 to 17 years old. The majority of our junior players come from severely disadvantaged communities on the Cape Flats including Parkwood, Steenberg and Lavender Hill. Participation in organized soccer through our club represents a viable alternative to the daily challenges of gangsterism and drug abuse.
  • We are currently assisting the Baphumelele Fountain of Hope youth to launch initiatives that benefit the community, including the launch of their new soap making project which turns recycled materials into desperately needed cleansing bars for the underprivileged in their community
  • We are also currently collecting donations of gently used clothing and household items for the new Baphumelele Hope Charity Shop – Youth in Action, a new retail store, located in Khayelitsha, which helps provide the community with low cost necessities.
